New Urban Tourism & The Night

Tourism is booming and many cities have recently become magnets for short term visitors. But the way tourism takes place has changed as well. During the last years more and more tourists left “the beaten track” for more individual and authentic encounters mostly at the inner city neighborhoods. On the opposite side residents themselves act as tourists more frequently. The urban night is one good example for the escape from their everyday life and the desire for extraordinary experiences. This brings up questions about the effects of increasing tourism and tourist behavior both on the urban night as well as on the urban neighborhoods where night tourism takes place.
